Hi there! I'm a young woman who has just started running her own household, and this seems like a nice friendly place. I think I will be mostly lurking and hanging around the houseplant forum (well, an 8th floor apartment can't really support anything bigger), but let's see! Nice to meet you all!
Hi, Welcome to GardenStew from north central Texas. Glad to have you join us. When you find a topic you want to respond to just jump in. Lots of interesting topics here you probably won't be able to remain a lurker for too long
Hi there Saproxylic and a big welcome to GardenStew Please let us know about gardening in Latvia and your home country in general as I would love to learn. I'm sure others would also. Enjoy!
Great to have you here Saproxylic. A warm welcome to you from Scotland. I look forward to getting to know you.
And another 'WELCOME' Saproxylic, from South East UK. And I also agree with Frank, please tell us a little about your country and whether people enjoy their gardens. Is your username your real name or does it have some meaning?
Than you for the warm welcome, guys! Latvia is a lovely place for gardening, I would say most people here do at least some. We really are passionate about growing our own food. Hardiness zones 5 and 6, so long cold winters, but enough summers to grow a wide variety of good stuff. Both of my grandmas are really good gardeners even though they don't have much land and energy left to work with. I used to have a bit of aversion to gardening initially (not fun to have your weekend time with parent taken away by a potato field) but I really like the idea of growing my own food at least theoretically. I have some minor mobility issues so getting my hands stuck in dirt for a long time isn't very enjoyable, but I think I could manage a few potted friends I might post a few pics of my grandma's garden. (Once we tried to mark every plant she has in her garden in a large garden plant encyclopeadia and went way past hundred)
@Saproxylic - am sure once you get your 'set up' going aka pots, containers, garden beds ready (the work work part done with) you'll love seeing your own plants emerge from the soil or grow and flower. Love to see photos of what you have now and your garden area
Saproxylic- Sending you a big welcome from a Stewbie in Wisconsin-USA. Wow-we are in the same gardening zone 5. Small world really. It is so much fun meeting others from far away parts of the world and seeing what they like and seeing pic's of their little corner of it. So glad you decided to join this super friendly group.
