I'm a gardener from London UK with a very clayey garden and two sporty boys with a lot of sporty friends who play a lot of soccer (UK football) and cricket in the garden. As a consequence, even though we keep them away from the garden when the ground is wet, we have a lawn that goes from nice and green to mudbath within two to three years of resowing/relaying - mudbath at the moment. And it's very hit or miss whether plants can stand up to the constant hits. But you would be surprised how resilient many plants can be!
Hi frances and welcome to GardenStew from beautiful Sweden. As I read your post I could imagine the scene, the safety of plants is not the first thing on the mind of two sporty youngsters Hope you love it here. Don't forget to check out our blogs, member map and calendar. // frank
Hi there Frances Welcome from sunny South Africa. I hear you, boys that loves footie and cricket - poor garden - but that makes those resilient plants so much more remarkable. You will enjoy the Stew and find that the Stew is filled with lots of great garden buddies. Hope to hear more from you.

Hello there Frances - great to have you here on our forums. I'm from a very snowy Scotland. I have two lads who are thankfully NOT into football but into weight training instead. WELCOME to GardenStew.

Hello Frances. I'm from very cold Michigan. I'm sure you'll enjoy it here on the stew. Alot of friendly people and knowledgeable too.
Hi Frances, welcome to the Stew from way too warm and muggy for February north Texas. Very happy you joined us. My soil is clay too, black clay that is hard as concrete with no rain but will suck your shoe off if you step in it after a good rain. Don't have boys playing football on it, just a dog and his poop.
Hi Frances from northeast Wisconsin. I've battled clay and am now living in sand...I don't know which is worse. I don't have boys, but have two big dogs that can do damage when they decide to lounge in my flowerbeds! Welcome.
Hi everybody. A lot of London is on clay. I guess it is easier to manage here than somewhere like North Texas because the climate is - on the whole - quite temperate. And although it is supposed to rain all the time in England, it doesn't. So the soil doesn't get too waterlogged either. Now the lawn and the boys is another matter. My husband was very excited to hear that I have joined this forum. He has already started telling me EXACTLY what I need to ask!
