Hi BirdLover, welcome to the Stew from north Texas.
I have two shade areas I am working on this year, what plants do you have in mind for your shady areas?

The best way to attract birds to your yard is with birdfeeders, birdbaths and some evergreen shrubs to provide the smaller birds some hiding places. If you have a place to put up some birdhouses that would bring them in too.

Welcome Birdlover. I too enjoy the birds and I have a new garden I'm going to work on this year which is out under and beyond my bird feeders. I've got so much I want to do and will be posting pics once we warm up (I'm in Southern ME) and start getting spring. We love to see pics so keep us posted on your progress.
