Hi Everyone, Just thought I'd introduce myself before I start posting! I'm a 28 year old living in NYC and a novice plant lover. Right now I've only dabbled in houseplants and I kind of need some tips . I have the following (may be missing a few): Swedish Ivy (a little worried about it) Jasmine plant (doing great!) Wandering Jew (it's not really showing any growth or stress) Rex Begonias (there are cat bite marks in it but other than that, they're great!) African Violet (also not showing any growth or stress) Polkadot Plant (leaves fall off a lot) Three different kinds of ferns (the absolute bane of my existence - they were meant to be in humid, outside conditions weren't they) Cactus (easy to take care of) Aralias (I think...) Anyway - I absolutely love plants and what they can do for your home and the environment. Figured I would join an online community and learn from you all! Thanks, Kinza
Welcome and ask anything. Hopefully someone will have the answer. Pictures are really helpful though when asking.
Hello and welcome from Idaho! I'm not very good with house plants (no room or much light) but there are lots of knowledgeable people here that can help you out.
Hi Kinza and a hearty welcome to GardenStew A lot of truly helpful members here so don't be shy in asking your questions. Hope you enjoy all our great features!
Welcome Kinza, greetings from southeastern NC, very good to meet you. I'm glad that you mentioned the kitty nibbles on your Rex Begonias (heheh, those kitties can be little devils , huh?).I was going to suggest Aglaonema (commonly called "Chinese Evergreen") as a really tough and tolerant houseplant, but - they are toxic - so, not a good choice after all, with a nibbler in the house.
Hi there and this time a warm welcome from a very chilly Scotland. You're going to love it here as we have folks from all over the world and we're a friendly and helpful bunch.
Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! I'm hoping I can learn a thing or two from this community. @zuzu's petals - yep she's adorable and she loves plants. As I'm writing this, she's fighting to sit on my keyboard . I moved the rex begonias to a windowsill she doesn't really frequent - so they're doing okay now. It's the ferns I have that she loves - they're in her favorite spot and she sits right in them ::sigh:: I grew wheatgrass for her, but she really prefers the ferns !!
Welcome to the Stew from the north-west coast of Norway. We've still got winter. I'm a horrible houseplant keeper, so I'll leave that to those who know what to do. Hop in and make yourself at home, I'm looking forward to stewing with you.
Kinza. Send you a big friendly welcome aboard also. Loved reading all the plants in your and your cats care. From a Stewbie in Wisconsin.
