Great to find what looks to be a really international forum - fascinating to see what people in different parts of the world are doing in their gardens now. I'm mostly a fruit and vegetable gardener on my allotment which means my house's garden is currently looking fairly neglected - any top tips on bindweed (Calystegia sepium) control out there? On my allotment, the beds are dug over regularly enough to keep it under some sort of control - but perennials in the garden make it much more difficult...

Here's a post I made a while back as I was having problems with this tenacious weed. "Thought I'd just give you all a few tips on how to deal with this 'dreaded weed.' Our neighbour has it growing in her garden and will NOT cut it back or dig it up. It creeps under the fence on my side so this is what I do. I push short lengths of garden cane into the soil next to the shoots and wrap the stems around the canes. This stops the bindweed from entwining itself around other plants. I then cut off the bottom of 2 ltr plastic water (or juice) bottles and remove the cap..." Yes, this really is the most welcoming forum in the entire world! And no I am not at all exaggerating a bit (as I should know, because I've been banned from a few other forums actually)! Thanks to all for such a warm welcome and the tips on bindweed control both in this thread and in the links you provided - it's amazing how widely this weed is spread. Sounds like Glyphosate/Round-Up, applied only to this plant, near the end of the season is the answer. I'm normally organic (in fruit and veg. growing anyway) but I think I might make an exception for this in my back garden as it's driving me mad.
