I found this place looking for advice on rooting mock orange (excellent answers by the way Capt Kirk) and I felt compelled to register My garden is aimed towards hummingbirds but do have a few plants that I like that are not hummingbird related. I inherited this original butterfly attracting garden when I met my husband who was newly divorced at the time. I added a few of my own additions and continue to add. We recently reseeded our double lot and expanding a little of the garden space. Right now I am focusing on weeding and mulching and transplanting some hostas that look like they may be choking out of space due to bachelor's buttons. I've noticed honeybees at the bachelor's buttons so have been trying to leave in as many as possible. We now have a seasonal lot near Lake Huron and it's a blank canvas. I've started splitting hostas and getting other plants ready for a move up there. My husband just took a job up there albeit contract. The hope is that he'll get in full time and we can move to that area and live in a cottage year round. Well, I've written a novel already so I'll close here in saying thank you for such a lovely board and I look forward to conversing over the fence with all of you! Jenn Listowel, Ontario
Welcome to the Stew from the coast of Norway, Jenn. I really like it when our new members tell about themselves, their gardens, pets, family, interests and so forth, and I read your "novel" with interest. I'm looking forward to stewing with you, so do hop in and make yourself at home.
Hi Jenn, welcome to GardenStew from north Texas. I too enjoyed reading your 'novel'. Ooooh, is the cottage in the woods with no one around for miles? That's my idea of a little piece of paradise. We would love to see pictures of your gardens.
thank you so much Droopy and Toni! I am still meandering around this site and learning what goes where. I do think I have a garden part set up here and did put pictures up which I guess you can view by going to my profile. I type roughly 90 wpm so it's easy to get carried away with the posts if I have a lot to say! It is currently 90ºF outside with 40% humidity so as a fair skinned redhead I am a little nervous about going out to weed.... Oh well I have my Coppertone SPF 30 on so hope it helps! Yesterday I just about wilted! Toni, no I don't think the cottage would be in the middle of the woods but one we were admiring has a lot of trees so it could pass for middle of the woods! But we have to see if he gets that coveted full time position and then we start shopping Jenn
When you get ready to post photos check out http://www.gardenstew.com/about4115.html and if you have any questions feel free to ask. Inserting the photos into the message is so much easier for everyone to see, especially those like me with 'older' eyes :-D
Hi there Jenn and so glad you've decided to join us here at GardenStew. :-D I like the sound of your butterfly/hummingbird garden and would love to see some photographs of it. I garden organically here in Scotland and my garden is full of plants that attract bees, butterflies and other wildlife. I look forward to getting to know you.
