Hello all! MY name is Tiffany and I joined this site because I just moved from NYC to Oregon and I now have a YARD! I would love to have a garden and grow different veggies and herbs. The only thing is, I havent the slightest idea where to start!!! Any suggestions would be great! Also, I am new to message boards so be patient with me
Hi Tiffany, welcome to GardenStew from north Texas. A new garden area is always exciting and scary. I would suggest that you pay attention to the shade and sun pattern in your yards...full sun is 6+ hours of sun per day, less than that and many perennials won't flourish. Check out garden centers in your area to see what plants they recommend and have your soil tested for pH and any nutrient deficiency. While at the garden centers make a list of the plants that you really like then check out where they fill do best in your yard.
Hi there Tiffany and welcome to GardenStew from West Lothian in Scotland. You'll get plenty of help from our members to get you started with your new garden so ask as many questions as you like. :-D I hope you have many happy years in your new home.
From Maryland, hello! Have fun planning out your garden! I grow my herbs in big pots -- that might be a good place to start while you're tracking the sun/shade, planning and scoping out what will grow best for you. Two different climates, NYC and Oregon -- different lifestyles too, huh?
OOO Weee! I live in Chiloquin!!! So we are neighbors! I work at the hospital in k-falls so I'm around ur neck of the woods alot! Any tips for gardening in our climate?
