New to this forum. I grow lots a vegetables and flowers. Actually, my beds have gotten nearly to the point I cannot keep up with anything larger. I like to grow heirlooms and open pollinated varieties in the vegetable garden. Flowers are whatever takes my fancy at the moment. I don't do much in the way of social media. Forums like this are it. My screen name describes me fairly well, although on the slim side of fat. 8)
Welcome to GardenStew from north Texas. Okay, what can we call you that won't sound like an insult We would love to see any photos of your gardens, veggies and flowers that you would like to share. Pets, hobbies too. Glad you joined us.
Well I think I'm going to call you FBG until we learn what your real name is. At least this way I won't feel as though I'm name calling. Welcome to our forums from West Lothian in Scotland. I hope you'll make your stay with us a long one. :-D
Hello! Welcome to the Stew. We're really very friendly. No insults here! I used to grow a big garden but have downsized to about 12 by 30 and it's full. Flowers go where ever there is a space for them. dooley
Hey FBG! Welcome to the Stew. I'm fairly new as well. Maybe a week older than you and I've discovered a great group of people. Friendly, kind and they know their plants! What zone do you live in? You seem to have a lot of experience, at least compared to me. :-D I hope you don't mind me picking your brain occasionally since I'm new to gardening. What would you say is the easiest & most difficult vegetable to grow? Enjoy the site!
And a big welcome from me too down here in SE Texas. Jump in and share your garden with us please... and have some fun along the way.
You get to meet gardeners from around the world, gardens and places you might never see otherwise. Jerry
Thanks for the friendly replies. FBG works as well as anything for a name. I have a thick skin and I don't take offence easily. My given name is Jeff. Answers in no particular order: I'm in SW Ohio, zone 5 just a couple of miles from zone 6. We're down to a single 15 year old Jack Russell terrier named Murphy. Adult children and 4 grandchildren. Whilst not a technophobe, I have yet to take the time to learn to upload/host and post photo's. Other than gardening, which takes nearly 20 hours per week during the season, it's history and various shooting disciplines. Easist veggie would be green beans. The innoculant sold by stores 'can' be helpful but not necessary, most diffucult would be sweet corn. Critters abound here. 'Possum, 'coon, deer, woodchuck, squirrel, rabbit, etc. ad naseaum. I've been adding organic matter (compost) to my soil at this house for about 7 years now, and just maybe in a couple, I'll be able to plant potato's. I'm dealing with silty/loamy clay you know. It's 0430 hours here and I'm off to work. FBG
Hi FBG and a warm welcome to GardenStew. It's quite easy to post photos. Here is a posting photos help topic, and we'll gladly answer any questions you have. Enjoy the Stew!
Jeff, I'm in SE-OH. You might be close enough to get to CHOPTAG (Cincinatti OP tomato group). Enjoy here, we mostly play nice.
FBG, you mention various shooting disciplines as part of your activities. Are you by any chance in a SASS group?
