I'm D, short for Debra (I'm not Debbie material so settled on Deb or just D). I've been married to my love Steve for 28 years now..and he's seriously considering keeping me. We have 3 grown sons and a multitude of four-legged children, 4 of the canine variety (they can't be called "dogs" that means they are in trouble for something they'd swear the cat did) and a cat that is horribly confused about his species. We're new to gardening & honestly up until a year or so ago my thumb was BLACK! Plants screamed and threw their neighbor to the front as a sacrifice when I went shopping at a nursery. Even cut flowers would cringe and faint at being chosen by me. I decided to stop being put off by all the small dead plant bodies and dried roots and apply some logic to the problem AKA read the instructions. Yes I confess I was thinking like a man that was lost... don't admit there's a problem, don't ask for directions. (Sorry gentlemen) My Love (Steve) is a truckdriver (he never gets lost), so most of the gardening is done by me. We've decided to add a few things each year, keeping it small until I get the kinks worked out. I send pictures to him weekly, sometimes daily so we can work out the afore mentioned kinks.
Hi Deb, welcome to GardenStew from north Texas. We would love to see photos of your garden or soon to be garden area or plants....but not the dead ones please, we all have those we are trying not to think about Photos of your canine variety children and the species confused cat would be great too.
Welcome D! All of us have killed plants in our gardening lifetimes. It just means somebody sold you the wrong plant or gave you bad information. You'll get great information here, and lots of very good advice. I'd love to see photos of dogs, cat, flowers, anything you care to post (and that handsome husband of yours, too--I'm partial to men with beards since my husband has one). We are looking at our 40th anniversary this year. A true testament to my husband's stamina and patience!
Welcome from SE Texas D. I remember reading that you just moved from Houston? I work NE of the big city... but rarely go into it! Welcome to the Stew... with all these wonderful knowledgeable folks here, you can bet your garden will be great from now on!
Cherylad We moved from NE Houston, Humble Kingwood area but it wasn't recently, nearly 10 years now. I've just recently gotten into gardening and it's vastly different from what I remember my mama and tia doing when I was little. I'll make sure I add pictures this weekend, most of them are on my phone. My morning and evening walk around I snap pics to send to my love so he stays in the know.
Hiya Debs and a warm welcome to you, your husband and furry friends (each and every one - including the confused kitty )from West Lothian in Scotland. I have a feeling you're going to fit in here just fine. :-D
Hi! We recently migrated to Texas from Arizona. The climate here is more humid than Arizona but the temps are most the same. We didn't live in the valley, but up about 4,500 ft so it didn't get the really bad heat. We have just one dog. How do you manage 4 canines and 1 cat without jealousy? Our dog doesn't think she is a dog either. Enjoy our site and you'll learn a lot about gardening. Just ask your questions. dooley
Thank you all for such a warm welcome. Cherylad if we lived within a 50 mile radius in Texas that IS neighbors! What type of work do you do, if you don't mind answering? Marlingardner you're a lady with refinement, taste and a bit of the devil to admire my love. He is a bear of a man that treats me like an empress. Eileen I do hope so, I enjoy laughing and sharing with family and friends. Dooley you'll regret that comment "ask you questions". As far as my babes they're all spoiled in one way or other. I'll give you an idea when I post pictures this weekend. OF NOTE.. each son had one dog...the beasts  didn't take them when they moved out from home. Each time I see someone post something I enjoy or was helpful I give them a seed. Is that correct? I've just had one of my staff rush in to tell me it's going to be frosty tonight(yes she knows I"m new to gardening). So must get home to cover the babies, one of the things I do love about Tennessee is having seasons that last longer than a few weeks....and working less than 10 minutes from home is nice as well!
Welcome to GS D, from the coastline of Karachi Pakistan! And by the way, it doesn't matter if you are new to gardening or not. The attitude of everyone over here is the same for all - Which is extremely friendly. Anyway, if you are going to start planting this season, than I recommend you also check out the seed and plant exchange section over here. I of course am on the other side of the world, therefore I can't send or receive and plants (something to do with the rules and regulations of International Custom Authority) - But I can easily send you some seeds to get you started!
D, it's so nice to have someone recognize my better qualities! :-D You are absolutely correct in your seed postings--the seeds are intended to recognize a helpful or entertaining post. Getting a seed can brighten a poster's day!
Netty, I tried to PM you to apologize for not responding to your greeting but it's not showing as sent, I'm guessing there's a time period before I can PM. Anyway...thank you so much for your welcome! S-H Thank you for your offer of seeds to trade. Just starting I have nothing to trade as yet.
You don't need to have anything at first. Since you are new to this, it is our duty to supply you with something! So think of joining this Forum like moving into a new home, where all your new neighbors throw a one dish party in your honor!
