Okay, for those who are not familiar with the location of a hellstrip....it is the hottest and dryest part of the front yard. In a suburban neighborhood it is the section of land between the front sidewalk and the street. It is a pain to have to mow, almost impossible to water so ideally drought tolerant plants are the best things to plant there but most people still believe that grass is best. Some cities and HOA's do require only grass be planted there but the only restriction my city puts on residents is that there be at least 12 inches of walking space at the curb edge for people who park in front of your house to safely enter and exit their vehicles.

Back is May the wildflower seeds I had planted last fall put on a show, not as many germinated as were planted but some of the seeds were old.

I spent part of this morning getting some Zinnia and Sunflower seeds planted, also a Rock Rose and two Zebra grasses.

Last weekend our oldest grandson worked on the hellstrip that is between our driveway and where the neighbors yard begins. It is where we put the trash can, recycle can and any tree trimmings for pickup by the city on each week. But as such I can not plant anything there and having grass would mean we would have to keep the weed eater for keeping the grass under control. I told him what I wanted and his artistic eye pictured this and he created it for me. The bricks on the curved section were broken one at a time to fit in there perfectly. OCD does run in my family :) I am so happy with the way it turned out, much better than I had imagined.

Thanks you all, I am going to show my grandson your comments tomorrow evening at a birthday dinner for his mom, my oldest. You know it's one thing when Gramma says it's good, like she has to say that she's Gramma....but having others like it too will make him feel really good.
