We had a VERY hard winter and ended up with almost 5 feet of snow in our front yard for about 4 months. Now that it is spring and everything should be enjoying the benefits of such a wet winter, we realize we have lawn mold. Our lawn is only 2 years old and struggles to stay alive anyway because we have 2 large dogs. Does anyone have any suggestions of how to get rid of the mold and help it green up?
Here are some ideas you can try. Don't pile snow from your walkways onto your lawn. Aerate aerate your lawn in the spring to encourage new growth. Wait until your grass has had a chance to dry out before attempting any repair. Rake the affected area and lightly fertilize to encourage new growth. Resod the affected area. Control your thatch to an inch or less. Make sure your lawn has the proper drainage so you don't have standing water or areas that do not dry out. Next Fall, apply a fungicide specially formulated for snow fungus. Cut your lawn in the fall so there is not a lot of height to encourage snow fungus. http://www.philthegardener.com
