    Hi guys, the names Ed:

I was wondering if you could help with...well we could call it "decking out my room". Since my room is small, I'm looking at using a lot of vertical it's space. I would also like to know how I could block the sun out of my room cause during summer it gets extremely hot and my room is the side that gets all the sunlight, those curtains aren't thick enough D;. Also the room is directly above the garage so I think the heat from the cars pretty much turns my room an oven during summer.

    Okay here are the photos:

This is a picture of my room standing in the doorway. I would like to replace that dull looking shelf with something else.

This is picture of my room facing north. They're the curtains I was talking about. Should I get thicker curtains or wooden blinds?

This is a picture of my room facing east.

This is a picture of my room facing south. And there's my crammed up cupboard! This is where I need help the most. Storage ideas to make that area look cleaner.

Here's a picture of my room facing west. Boring slab of wall. I was thinking of putting a shelf going along the wall, if I could find the studs.

Yeah so, there's my room and I'm looking forward to any response. I'm up for any ideas and willing to spend A LOT.

how about some blinds and inuslated drapes. there are some drapes that completley block out sun light. i would think those would reduce the overal temp during the hot summer days.

Would it be possible for you to have 'floating shelves' in your room instead of so much free standing storage units? It would open up the floor space more for you.
You can now get special light reflecting blinds (meant for conservatories but could be adapted easily)that would keep your room cooler and block some of the light too.
Without the drapes the room would also look so much larger than it actualy is.
Try to colour co-ordinate everything as it's amazing how different and more appealing your room will then look.
Lastly you could hang a matching blind over your wardrobe area so that it would take away a bit of the cluttered appearance.

As for storage solutions I would suggest baskets or small totes you can get them almost anywhere. Have you ever thought about painting? That would brighten things up a bit. The window I would use black out curtains that would keep the light out as well as the heat.

First, I would make the large blank wall a focal point. A dark color, maybe a pretty shade of red, green, teal, etc. If you are going to be replacing your bed spread, have it match your drapes or at least coordinate the colors (just don't get too many colors in the room, as it looks rather small). Vertical shelves, floating shelves like Eileen suggested would be a great idea. Have a large shelf instead of all the small free standing shelves. Use blinds as well as insulated drapes. On sunny days, open the drapes and blinds for a burt of sunshine! Let us see the completed room, if you will. Good luck and have fun with it. :)

I think you need to utilize your wall space much better. I would install some wall mounted shelving and get all the stuff off your floor mounted shelves including beside the bed and get it onto the wall shelving. This will give you more floor space. Also do you have room under your bed for an under bed storane bin. If you do I'ld use it.Ther avail at Kmart or walmart and only about 6" high. I wouldn't use a drape in there, closes in the place. I would suggest a light blocking cellular shade. It will make a big difference keeping out hot and cold and give the place a more open look.

Possibly you don't need any more shelves, just a better utilization of the available space you already have.

To the left of your monitor is a wall mounted rack for holding files/papers, it is half empty. On the shelves at the foot of your bed are two cardboard containers for holding files and papers. Can those papers be moved to the empty slots by the monitor then get rid of the cardboard holders? On the very top shelf above your monitor are some empty stand up racks for holding files, notebooks, etc. Do you use those? If not, that space could be put to better use. Possibly holding that box presently on the next to the bottom shelf at the end of your bed.

Skate board under the bed or you can buy wall mounts for them, one of those on the wall beside your bed would be good.
Robe in the closet or hanging from a nice looking hook on the wall at the foot of your bed.

What is that small pile of things on the shelf below the skateboard? How about the things next to the box on the next to bottom shelf and the item on the left of the bottom shelf? Are those things that could possibly be put in a basket and kept under your bed?
Shoes should be in the closet or under the bed.

On that next shelf down is a small plastic basket that is taking up a lot more space than it needs. What does it hold? Things that could be in a smaller basket and on that empty shelf above your monitor?
That empties the shelves at the end of your bed, take them out and the room really opens up.

Buy a short entertainment center to put the TV on top of and that has storage under for all your games, movies, controllers, etc. That might help to get rid of the two small storage units under the big window. If there is room above the TV after it is on a stand, hang the speakers above it on that black wall.
Or a taller unit that will serve the same purpose plus having space for the speakers? you have on the floor.

Shorter curtains on that large window, ones that only reach to the bottom of the window frame. The long ones make it look cluttered, get in the way and make the room look smaller. Wouldn't hurt to get room darkening shades or venetian blinds for that window. Remove the curtains from the smaller window, replace with either a shade or blinds too.

Keep the closet door closed when you aren't using whatever is in there, that will make the room look less cluttered.

As far the wall beside your bed. Do you have a favorite band, sport, place you would like to go or have been? Framed posters/photos will add color, interest and personal life to the room.
