Hi, I'm trying to find info on Bougenvelias (how to care for them, what they like,...) Is that even the correct spelling? Does it have another name that it goes by? I've tried searching the web but there seems to be very little info regarding this plant. Or, possibly I am searching for the wrong thing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Mel
Hiya Mel. Great to have you posting here at GardenStew. :-D I hope this website explains everything you need to know about Bougainvilleas. http://www.qcbonsai.org/articles/treecare/tc_bough.html Why not tell us a little about yourself and your garden, pets and family as we love to get to know new members.
thanks Hi Eileen, Thanks for the response, and the correct spelling! That in itself is very helpful. We don't have much of a garden since we live in a condo in SF. We have a balcony that is only about 6' x 6'. Recently my girlfriend bought a couple of planters and put some flowers in them. We just wanted to put some color and freshness outside the door, instead of always looking at a drab grey. One of the things she planted was bougainvilleas. It's not doing so well, and that is why I am researching it. I'm grateful for this website and everyone's help - hopefully we'll have some success with the plants in our balcony space.
Do it get direct sun all day? Or the harsh afternoon sun? Because one of mine is in all day direct sun and it shed all its flowers. They are starting to come back now but it was bald for a while! LOL Now the other one it in partial shade of the Gnome Dome and doesnt like it too much. The leaves from that side of it are turning brown and the flowers look sad.
No, it does not get direct sun all day. Our balcony faces west, so the building blocks any direct sun in the morning. As the day goes on it gets more light, but I wouldn't say it gets the harsh afternoon sun either. It's really only been about a week and a half since we've put it out there. But right away the leaves were all wilted. I suppose it was shocked, I don't know if we killed it... Will just have to wait and see.
I know nothing about them not even how to spell it .Hoe pinkiered helped you and god luck and welcome to our world at gardenstew
