Greetings from South Georgia. I noticed that the beautiful Dogwood I have in my back yard wasn't blossoming and then noticed these splits in the trunk. They aren't on just one side of the tree. They are on multiple sides. Is there any hope for this beauty? Thanks so much for your time and help!
I tried to upload a picture but it said file size was too large. I took pics with my phone so not sure how to make it smaller size. If anyone can tell me how, I'd be most appreciative.

I would suggest you call an arborist and let her or him asses the damage. They will know what diseases and pests are in your area that might have caused the damage.

Usually this type damage is weather related. Where are you located ? Does the rest of the tree look healthy ? Cracks in the bark are not uncommon but this looks to extend into the trunk. How many cracks are there?

We have had horrible weather here (tornados and straight line winds) but nothing else in yard affected. Blooms on tree are dead and wilted so I guess not healthy in that respect since it's spring and it should be blooming. 4-5 cracks in the trunk.

I am wondering if it got hit by lightening. that will pop cracks in a tree without a doubt.
