We have a number of dwarf burning bushes along a white picket fence in our front yard. Half of them are a deep green but the others seem to be pale and unhealthy. They all get about the same amount of watering and sunlight and are in the same beds. Any thoughts? Too much water for those particular plants? Does the water run toward them when they are watered, like they are a little lower than the others? Too little sun, do they get some shade that the others don't get? Usually those are the two problems Burning Bush has. Were the sick ones all hit at the same time or did the problem seem to go from one to the next to the next? Spreading from one to another then another could be a fungal disease. Check the bark, if the green part of the bark is disappearing then they probably have Scale. Scale is commonly white but the species of Scale that attacks the Burning Bush is dark colored.
Toni, the two bushes the pictures came from are maybe fifteen feet from each other. Most of the watering comes from being on the periphery of an oscillating sprinkler. Sunlight for both is about the same. I think the sick ones just never greened up like the others. Unfortunately, they're also the ones that are seen first by any visitor.
