Hi there, what can I put on a yellow Jacket sting to take the pain away? I have been stung MANY times before but it never hurt much. Today while I was weed wacking I must of hit a nest. They got me in my elbow and there is a big white spot there the size of a quarter. It hurts like crazy for about an hour now. I was wondering if anyone knew of something I could put on it to stop the pain a little. Thanks in advance.
Is there a stinger still in it? Squeeze it out if so. Put a paste made from meat tenderizer on it, or dab ammonia on it or vinegar. Take a benadryl (or another Diphenhydramine product)
Richie, do you have meat tenderizer? Make a solution of it with water, dip a cotton ball in it and hold it on the site(s). You can make a slurry and lather it on but keep it wet. If you don't have tenderizer but have papaya use the papaya. Someone once told me that WD40 works but I have never tried it.
A paste if baking soda and water sometimes works, too. But, do take an antihistamine, like benadryl. Meat tenderizer works better than baking soda but if you don't have it try the baking soda. dooley
Benadryl is good. Yellow jackets are wasps and as such can sting many times, since they don't leave the stinger in like a honey bee would.
Dad always had us put mud on it and let it dry. Once it's dry scratch it off with your finger nail. When the mud comes off, it will take the stinger with it. Works every time with me.
Cool, thats why I could not find any stingers! Thank you. :-D Barb, Actually I put an ice cube on the sting and it helped a lot.
Lot more wasp this year. They said because of drought. I picked up a dead one at customer's apartment. He got me from the grave.
Today is too late, but the next time pick a plantain (the weed kind) and run a lighter over it just enough to make it wilt and apply it as a poultice. Works wonderfully. If you don't have a lighter handy chew it up and put that on as a poultice. The other thing that works well for honeybee stings is dandelion sap. pull the root/leaf/flower stem (which ever give the most sap) and let the sap well up and dab that on...needs to be done immediately, though. I have also used plain old ammonia to neutralize the venom. That also works, so I would think it would work for wasps, too.
Wow that is really great info on how to treat stings. I hate all the wasps this year. I had to take my jelly feeder in because of the wasps around it. I even had a bald face wasp visiting the jelly feeder. It would chase away all the other wasp away. Yikes! it was a huge wasp. I say was with a smile on my face. Got out my vinegar and soap spray and by, by wasps. Then I put out a trap. Hear waspy, waspy, I have a special treat for you. Plus I had to put out a different Humming bird feeder to keep the wasps away. The little Hummers are afraid of them. I also hung a trap out there.
I guess more of some, less of other insects is just an indication of what's in store for us if the climate does change a lot. Tropical bugs can live further north as well as plants and...snakes! Yikes, I don't want to look out at my zone 7 yard and see parrots or monkeys all over.
