    The year before last I was in the Bahamas on a vacation and I saw a hermit crab (or some such thing) that was trying to carry a water bottle cap around as his house... Funny and sad at the same time.

    This guy looks a little shy. Nice of him to come out even that far for you!

    Sorry just have to say, I have a slight crab phobia. But I guess it's quite cute.

    You're right about the "not pretty" part. The one below is a bit cuter and was posted as the Pet of the Day on July 11th (http://petoftheday.com/archive/2009/July/11.html). I'll still stick to the furry critters in my household, thank you!

    Hermit crabs are really fascinating creatures. I have watched one transferring itself from one home to another. I didn't realise that day just how long I'd spent out on the rocks until I noticed the tide was coming in. Didn't know I could move that fast to get back to the prom!!! :p
