For about 4 years, I had an Eastern Flycatcher that would follow me as I mowed the yard and he would swoop down and grab up bugs as the mower would scare them up out of the grass. Then 3 years ago he didn't come back. Finally today as I was mowing this form swooped down right in front of me and I thought it was going to hit me. Then it grabbed up a light purple moth and zipped up into a tree. There he was setting and eating then he swooped down again. He fly's from tree to tree snatching bugs out of the air. He always lands on a bare limb. I know it's probably not the same bird, but it sure seems like an old friend has returned. I sure missed him!

Wow, that's cool. I'll bet it's the same one from years back.

Some flycatchers can live to be ten years old CK so maybe your little bird is the same one. It's nice to know that you have your companion back again. :-D

They can certainly remember for that long. I raised a Robin many years ago and everyday he went outside to learn about the world. So I would move these bricks that were piled up one at a time so he could catch all the bugs. After he went away for the Winter and then came back in the Spring he came right back to where the brick used to sit if he saw me outside and wanted me to move them.

It was very cute. He also liked to lay out in the sun with me until his wife made him got off my chair and fly away. She is the one that got him to stay away from me but he always raised his family near my yard.

It was the same bird and they do remember long term..
