Pat Long was sitting in a ground blind with his son, hunting hogs near Midway, GA.
This rattler stuck its head into the blind. The son shot it in the head with a .22 pistol
    9.5' long
    Head is 5.5" wide
    Fangs are 2.5" long
I think he said it had 22 rattles.
It had the bones of 3 little pigs in its stomach.

How many times have you walked through the woods in the dark?

At the Rattlesnake Roundup in Sweetwater, Texas... the longest was only 78" (6.5 feet) long in March of 2013. Can't find any records for other years but it has taken place every year since 1958, I don't know if there have been longer ones caught.

    Link removed..sorry about that

Well, that man should be ashamed of himself for shooting a little baby rattler. :( Around here we leave the 10 footers to grow up to be adults before we even consider eradicating them.
And that, John, is an example of Texas braggin'!

This creature, (now that it is dead) should be stuffed and donated to some natural history museum.

Just a note - the link to the Rattlesnake Roundup just sent my anti-virus program into hysterics! Be careful what you click!

I love walking in the woods, and now I'm profoundly glad we haven't got big snakes here.
