I found Garden Stew a while back and got some excellent help and advice from many people. Although I returned to read the forums I didn't log in for ages and when I tried to the other day I had forgotten my username and password - so new account created! Looking forward to catching up on news and to picking a few brains along the way :-D Hubby and I have taken on his Dad's garden. It's huge and quite wild looking, but over the past two years we've managed to tame it and it's shaping up nicely. I've been admiring the rockery today - two years ago we demolished a garden wall and a stone barbecue and didn't know what to do with all the rubble. Hubby suggested we build a rockery and this year it actually looks good! The plants I put in have taken well (saxifrage in pink, red and white. Aubretia and a few heathers, Forget me Nots that have gone completely native! plus an unidentified purple flowered plant that looks lovely) and I find it hard to envisage what it used to look like. I had a lovely Columbine (Grannys Bonnet) that started off well, but ended up getting scorched (rockery in full sun from 11am to about 3pm) so I had to re-locate it. As you can tell, I'm still learning! It's a slow process in this particular garden as it is so big and the weeds take a lot of digging (Bindweed and Horsetail are the two main culprits, with a Sticky Willie coming in a close third), but we think of it in terms of improvements from year to year. This year there is so much less weeding to be done that what we had to do two years ago. It's hard work but the best bit is sitting out with a cold beer and enjoying the scenery!
It's so good to see you posting again. Welcome back. :-D You must show us some photographs of the newly tamed garden and the rockery you've built. If you want to know what your purple is then post a piccie of it in the 'Plant ID' forum and someone will be along to name it for you.
Welcome back Teddy, I thought the username sounded familiar. When I saw the Liverpool location it all came rushing back Would love to see the rockery sometime.
Hi Teddy, welcome back. I don't believe we've met before, I guess I joined during your absence. I look forward to getting to know you now that you've returned.
