Very nice work. I especially liked the third picture of the huge structure in front of the sawhorses. What do it do? I'm not making fun. I really do like it. What is it's function? Welcome to the forum. There are a lot of really nice folks here. I hope you enjoy it. DR

Thanks desert rat. the 3rd pic is a 5 1/2 ft birdhouse .it is just about finished. i drill the holes last so the birds don,t go in until it is 8 ft in the air.the roof will be done with copper.
    thanks

Wonderful work - I love the goose cutouts on the rails, and the birdhouse. I have carpenters in my family, so I have some concept of all the time and care that goes into making it come out 'just right.' Looking forward to seeing more. Have you done any garden architecture, like intersting trellises or obelisks?

    Great stuff John,
    welcome to the stew.

What type of wood have you used to create those structures?

Welcome to GardenStew, lots of magnificent people here who are always will to help and have a good laugh. :D

That's great work John, birdhouses built for kings :D It would be great to get some tips or insight into the process you use when starting a new project. That would make for great reading! Or a great blog.

Why don't you add yourself to our member map and put you birthday into our calendar.

    Hi John,

Well to say I'm impressed with your carpentry skills would be an understatement!!!! They are beautiful and soooo detailed. Have you any more examples of you work that you can show us? I do hope so. :-D You know you really should think about selling some of them as they would be extremely popular. Such a pity that I live in Scotland or you might just have had your first commission. :D

WELCOME to Gardenstew - sorry got carried away with your arch and bird houses and almost forgot!!! :p

Thank you all very much for the nice welcome and very nice replies. i build all the birdhouses out of barn board between 60-150 yrs old. i have built 19 log birdhouses so far. i have won woodworking contest for them. i had 2 newspapers in my area do stories on them and a major woodworking magazine wants to do an article on them. i do not build them to make money but i do build them in hopes to inspire other people to show them what is possible with salvaged wood. i have 97 more pictures on my site.
