Hi Naturenanni, welcome to GardenStew from north Texas. I am hoping to have a milkweed patch next year too. We are sometimes on the migration path for the Monarchs, some years we have bunches of them and some years we might see a dozen, tops. I saw one swooping around the front flower garden this morning, I had just put three milkweed plants in the ground so maybe it was a scout and will tell the others where the newest plants are. I don't mind a bit giving plants to the caterpillars
Hello, and welcome! We are on a small farm in central Texas with vegetable gardens, herb gardens, bee hives, chickens and a Monarch Larva Monitoring site. We dedicate part of our pasture to milkweed, and spend an hour or so every Sunday morning counting milkweed, looking for eggs and instars, and recording the flowers in bloom. We are easy to entertain . . . . Watch out for Toni--she is known to get people hooked on plants and is an instigator of new gardening passions!
Welcome Marlingardener! I live in the Houston, TX area. I love butterflies, and have put part of my back yard into butterfly bushes and hummingbird bushes. I have the most beautiful butterflies, and the hummingbirds are here right now having there last brood before migrating into Mexico for the winter. I love flowers and have lots of flower beds, and I have rock gardens all along the back privacy fence int he back with tropicals and assortments of flowers. I love being outside, and just came inside from filling all of my running birdbaths in the back yard. Our dog loves drinking out of them along with the birds. lol Again Welcome, and it's a pleasure meeting you. You will love this forum.
Just dropping in to say 'hi' to you Naturenannie and welcome you to our forums from Scotland. I'm an organic gardener who is keen on all types of wildlife and try to introduce plants that help our bees and butterflies as well as our birds and animals. I look forward to getting to know you.
Welcome to the Stew, Naturenannie, from a wet and cold Norwegian who's severely butterfly-deprived this summer. We've got a garden that's constantly under construction, and plants of all kinds haphazardly placed awaiting my decision.
