Fern, ferns and more ferns --- I like to grow ferns because that is one thing that I certainly have a green thumb with. I have massive ones, even a couple spilling out of large whisky barrels and couple waiting for their barrels. My other favorites are the tall elephant ears. I grow lots of other plants too, nothing exotic, or too expensive because we have to watch out for the storms that brew over the ocean. In the winter, I put all container plants in an enclosed garage keeping the lights on and adding a space heater. I have some plants, mainly ficus, that I've had for 15 plus years. My other interests are all God's critters that enjoy the yard. Thanks for listening! Juli Carolina Beach, NC

Hi Juli, welcome to the Stew from north Texas. Please give us some suggestions on growing ferns, I have killed more than most people have grown. I'm figuring it is the Texas heat they don't like even in the shade.
Hey Juli! I'm Gina and from Alabama. I am a newbie here like you and have come to really like the folks on GardenStew. They are soooooooo helpful AND friendly! I know you will be happy you joined the community! Welcome again! Gina
Hi Juli If you look out your window, you might be able to see me waving to you from just down the road a ways.
Growing ferns Hmmmmmmmm --- I don't do anything special to the ferns. I think God just wants me to have them! I grow them in the shade or the sun. I was told they wouldn't grow at the coast because the winds zaps the water from them but they do. I usually water them daily. Some are getting out of control --- they would all like to go into larger pots but I have at least a dozen that I have to keep in hanging baskets because of their location and I don't want these to grow because their spots would be empty. I don't use fertilizer for any of them for fear they will grow even more. I don't know how to post pictures on this site. I'll try reading the instructions (something I'm not good about doing) and see if I can figure it out. If so, I'll post some pics. Thank you all for the warm welcome! Unfortunately, I just now found that too --- again, because of not reading instructions!
