Welcome! Empty gardens can be awesome. I call them blank canvas and you can just dream and visualize. You'll get lots of help here!

    Welcome from South-Western Ontario!

Thanks for the welcome guys! Is there anything you'd recommend for me as I get started?

Or a better way to phrase it: if you had a clean slate for your garden and were starting over from scratch what would you do?

Well, it would depend on what kind of garden you want and what you hope to attract to it. Mine is a hummingbird attracting garden (or will be when I'm done) so I have lots of hummingbird loving plants in it. With that in mind these are my suggestions.

Hostas are pretty hardy in just about any zone that I know of. Columbines are good ones too and they spread so would be good in large sections. They come in a variety of colours too.

Bee Balm (Monarda) is another hummer loving plant and spreads.

Hollyhocks are biannual plants and are beautiful as are hardy hibiscus. In my experience (as an amateur green thumb) they are easy to grow.
