I'm so pleased to have found GardenStew. I searched on-line for instructions on how to transplant a rose bush, and out of the responses I chose one from one of your members. It was very detailed with detailed photos. From there I found GardenStew. I have never joined anything on-line before, but I love gardening and would like to have discussions with others of like mind. There is so much I need to learn. Thanks so much for being here. Karen
Warm welcome to you from the coast of mid-Norway, Karen. Love your avatar, that cat looks very comfortable indeed. The Stew is a warm and friendly place with lots of knowledge, and I'm certain you'll like it here. So hop in and make yourself at home.
Hi Karen and welcome to GardenStew from West Lothian in Scotland. You're going to love being here as it's a great place to learn and have fun too. :-D So pull up a chair and tell us a little more about yourself as we enjoy getting to know new friends.
Thanks so much for your welcomes. (If I'm posting a reply, must I put something in the subject?) I hope I catch on quickly as to how things are done here. I've been living in California now longer than anywhere else, however I did grow up on the East coast of the US, in Maryland. Been in Oakland since 1999, when I came here to attend Mills College (a women's undergraduate college.) Apparently I am retired at the moment, got laid off from a non-profit organization called Half the Sky Foundation; many more people out of work than there are jobs available. Right now I am working as a community organizer in my own neighborhood on various projects. One of the projects is that I'm trying to start a backyard gardening network on my street so that we can have fresh food available for our own little neighborhood. It is a growing (oops, I made a pun)trend in many cities, I understand, due to heightened awareness of health and wider environmental concerns. I'll be posting some questions asking advice on a number of gardening issues. Thanks again.
Welcome Karen - love your kitty avatar :-D Would love to hear more about your neighborhood gardening organizing. You'll have to share more...
