When we awoke on Sunday morning the clouds had lifted and the sun had come out. We went to the hotel restaurant to have breakfast and then decided to go to the Highland Wildlife Park at Kincraig until it was time to head home. On the way up the mountainside we saw this lovely little mountain stream and took a piccie for Jan. These trees were just beside the loos. They are Mountain Ashes although we call them Rowans and they were absolutely gorgeous. I just HAD to take a piccie for you all!! On reaching the highest point in the park (walking up not driving) I thought I'd capture a the view to make up for the Cairngorm ones from Saturday. We rested at the top - well we're getting on a bit after all!! After 15 minutes we started to take a slow walk down shooting piccies as we went. SNOWY OWL. ARCTIC FOXES. WILD BOAR. COUGH. These lovely black birds are now VERY rare in Scotland. They are about the size of a carrion crow and are, in fact, corvines too!! BISON. We used to have buffalo here in Scotland which looked very similar to these bison although they were smaller and stalkier in build. This fellow decided that he'd just saunter into the road in front of the cars and block their way. Considering he weights around 3/4 of a ton no-one argued about his right to do so!! His friend found intimidating a pheasant more fun. PHEASANT. PINE MARTEN. RED SQUIRREL. Just one more batch of piccies to come I promise!!!
Thanks so much Eileen I always thought that I would die before I saw the wonders of the mother land. Now thanks to you and the internet I get a peek.
You can't beat a bit of wildlife eh. Very delighted to see the snowy owl and the arctic foxes. Beautiful. I wasn't even aware there was bison in Scotland. You learn something new everyday. They look awesome. Lol at the pheasant intimidation Thanks for the updated panoramic view, now we know what you are so excited about. Breathtaking. That Mountain Ash looks great also, such colour. Worth the wait Eileen :
Oh Eileen Thank you so very much for all the great pictures.I felt like I was walking with you all. The buffloe in Yellow Stone are like that .Its their road and you just wait for them to move on. I sure wish we had Mountain Ash here. That tree is fabulous.
The wild boar look sort of like our javalina. Except javalina are not really pigs. They are members of the peccary family. Dooley
