Hi there Geena and a warm welcome to GardenStew. Are you looking for gardening related projects or other types of projects. Hopefully one of us will have a great idea for you! Don't forget to check out our blogs, member map and calendar. // frank
I am looking for all kinds of projects. Children these days need to spend more time outside/doors learning about the environment they live in. I just do not like to see a child(s) be a "house mouse". Beautiful world out here...come and see
Number one if you have outside space is growing sunflowers. Extremely rewarding for kids. Inside, plant some seeds in eggshells (break off just the tops to empty them out, then rinse them & poke a tiny hole in the bottom for drainage) Kids always get a kick out of that. Any fast-growing annual will work. Or small plant, marigolds work well here if you want instant-gratification. Get the smallest marigolds you can find, they will quickly get big & flower.
Welcome to our forums Geena. I hope our members can furnish you with plenty of ideas for the childrens programme.
Welcome to the stew Geena. I've got a 4 year old and she loves to grow flowers in our garden. She loves to pick them and put them in her hair. I'm going to try Critterpainters idea with the egg. We usually just use a cup or something so that is cool. Good luck and have fun. We'd like to see pics on any projects you might do. Enjoy!
A warm welcome to Geena from coastal mid-Norway. You've picked a warm and friendly online community to join, lots of adorable and knowledgable people here. I slept in this morning and feel a bit woozy still. Just let me wake up and I'll see if I can find some ideas for your outdoors activities. Hop in and enjoy yourself, see you later.
Hi Geena, welcome to the Stew from north Texas. How about a Sunflower 'house' and a Green Bean Teepee. Plant the Giant Sunflowers in a square shape approximately 5-6 feet square, leaving space between two of the seedlings for the house opening. As the sunflowers grow the room forms and the kids will love having a 'hidden' space to play in. Use long Bamboo poles to make the basic form of the Teepee also leaving a space for a door and making it wide enough for at least 2-3 of the kids to sit in it at a time. Plant a vining vegie (scarlet runner beans, peas, tomatoes, etc.) around the base and as the vines grow they will cover the bamboo form and the kids can pick the vegies and eat them right off the vine....as long as you don't use any sort of chemical spray on them.
Hi Geena, Another project you might look into is a pine cone bird feeder. My son's pre-school tried this. First tie a strong string around the cone and make it long enough to suspend from a tree branch. Lightly smear peanut butter over the cone and roll it in bird seed. Be careful to put just enough peanut butter to hold the seed on the cone, too much will gum up the birds beaks. Good luck!
