'Tis the season to start seeing buds/blooms! How are your holiday cacti doing? Any buds yet?

I was just thinking about them the other day. I haven't noticed any buds yet. And I need to ask my aunt when she start to cover her's up.
I have never had a bloom on mine and they are around 3 years old. This year, I'm going to make an extra effort.

Cheryl, If you keep it where it gets a natural light rhythm, it should bloom for you without any effort on your part, other than to keep it from artificial light exposure. they aren't nearly as sensitive as mums or poinsettias.

I think if the word turkey is spoken around this time of year the Schlumbergeras start to produce buds.

About to celebrate its 37th birthday this Schlumbergera truncata started producing blooms a couple of weeks ago. One section, always late to the party and rumored to be a separate plant, will produce buds and bloom after Thanksgiving, extending the season to almost two months. Last summer, during an internal house renovation, encounters with several humans, produced several additional plants. The younger clones have not produced buds and may very well have not been told of the holiday. They will attend budding classes next summer. The kids are shy and did not want their picture taken. Mom, however is a showoff.

    Say turkey!!

I received a "Christmas cactus" last Christmas, and it has thrived so far. No buds yet, but it may be waiting for Christmas. Perhaps if I hang a calendar next to it, open to December, it will bloom earlier!

That's a remarkable plant Jerry! Maybe I need to show that photo to mine and show 'em how it's done.

Nights longer than days are what cause buds to form.

Very pretty, Jerry!! The Begonia and Aglaonema/Dieffenbachia in the background look amazing too. Well grown!

    TURKEY!

I have about 10 of these things (Schlumbergera truncata, TC, like in Jerry's pics) and not all have buds yet, though all have been outside in relatively the same conditions. ...apparently some individual personalities?

Currently a flower and other bud on my older, bigger EC. I also have a couple smaller, genuine CC's, with no signs of buds yet, but they are expected a little later. (Hoping they DO show up!)

By now I can see buds on all of my plants. This one will have the first open flowers. Getting exciting!

Question for Purpleinopp: the plant trying to horn in on your picture from the right appears to be an epiphyte. Is it?

The other plants in the pic are Kalanchoe beharensis 'Fang,' Senecio crassissimus, and Euphorbia tirucalli. I think you are asking about the Euphorbia, Jerry? If so, it's not an epiphyte. The holiday cactus is the only one of those in that pic. E. tirucalli is often confused with various Rhipsalis though. I have some of those around also.

I just received some Christmas Cacti in the mail and they were a little wilted. They are very short also. I am hoping for the best however! I do not expect it to bloom this year...
