I took a couple of pictures of the hollyhocks in my garden. I was going to move them to the new flower bed but I hurt my knee. There are really too many to move, too. There is one by the bridge, too. I don't plant them so I have no control where they are unless I move them. Dooley
Dooley - hollyhocks are one of my husbands favorites. I know what you mean about them growing wherever the seeds drop. Any ideas what colors you have. Ours last years were mostly pink and a few yellow.
They are a mix of pink, purple, red and white. I was going to steal some yellow seeds from down the street. They were growing in a ditch. I forgot though. Dooley

This must be the exact right climate for them. Sometimes they get watered if I'm watering in the same area and they get overspray. But, they just grow everywhere in the yard, garden, along the streets, in the ditches, all over town. I could send you seeds in the fall. Dooley
If something had to take over my garden I would want it to be these. I always grow them and have a time keeping them from the rabbits. 8)
Oh, I'm green with envy, again! I've heard so many people say that Hollyhocks will run amok, self-sow everywhere and just generally take over, :-? but that sure hasn't been my experience . . . DANG IT!! Can't wait to see 'em in bloom Dooley.
Dooley, I have the dwarf Hollyhocks coming up all over the yard like that too. The bed by the back door is where I planted the first one and it is half filled with 2 foot tall plants in full sun and they started a little bed for themselves on the other side of the house in almost full shade. Yesterday I found one bloom opened up. I can't wait until they all bloom they are covered with little puple and white stripped blooms.
I'm looking forward to seeing all those pictures when they start blooming.It will be a wonderful site.
Wish they would grow like that for me! Foxgloves do that to my garden though, so I am not complaining to much. I love that white bridge of yours, so pretty!
I've had no luck whatsoever with hollyhocks, I think you are right about your area being an ideal climate for them! Ooo, don't get me started on foxglove. I love the look of the plant and it grows wild all around here, but lost it's charm for me the day DD ate some and we had to rush her to the emergency room for digitalis poisoning *shudder*

Sharon, yep that is mine. I started with a single 18" tall plant about 5 yrs ago. They are all over the yard now, the birds love to hope around inside them in the fall picking seeds, they are evergreen and gorgeous when in full bloom. I dug up and gave away over 5 dozen seedlings last spring.
