I have a beautiful rosemary growing in a container in sunroom, decided it should be propagated by cuttings, so went browsing the internet for methods and proper procedures as rosemary and I don't get along at all! In the course of my "travels", came across an Australian site that mentioned using either rooting hormone or HONEY to prompt cuttings into doing something besides just sitting there. Thought I was seeing things..honey? Stated in the method I read was the fact rooting hormones contain a fungicide that helps ward off evils in a propagation process as well as boost root growth. Got thinking about all the attributes honey possesses (antibacterials, etc.), using honey sounds logical to me, was wondering if anyone has heard of this before..or tried it? Bought the rosemary last year as a seedling, have no idea what variety it is, but it's done very well in its container. Summered outside, has been in sunroom since Sept., is now beginning to push out all kinds of new growth on tips that just BEG for propagation! Normally, I look at rosemary, it looks at me and the plant's a "goner" for some reason, so really want to TRY doing something worthwhile with this one. Any advise will be greatly welcomed..thanks!
I have never heard of using honey, but does make sense. I have rooted rosemary starting in Oct. here using the hardened wood part where it starts to become soft wood. I also used Rootone hormone powder. You could probably use willow water to, I've never used it. But because of our heat I guess is why I never had any luck in the spring/summer. But had good luck in the fall.
