My sister lived in Flagstaff, Arizona and she had a garden. You just have to start things inside or buy plants instead of seeds. There are even some seeds that are short season so you can use them. Find out how long your growing season is (from the last frost date to the first frost date) and look on the back of the seed packages to see the time lengths for growing them. Usually it will say 60 to 120 days or something in between. Lettuce, peas, beets, chard, all the cool weather crops will do okay after the last frost date, average date. Ours is in March but we are at 4,300 here. Try it, experiment on what will grow but you should be able to do most things. dooley

I do not know a lot about high altitude gardening since I have always lived near sea level. But I am looking forward to your posts and learning about and from your experiences.

Welcome csj, I hope it is not as hard to learn as high altitude cooking/baking was! I miss the scenery, but am glad to be back to where it is "normal" for me! Hwo long have you lived there?

High altitude gardening. My brother lives in Abiquiu and I lived in Denver, 5200 feet, and you'll need to compost and lots of water in July & August. Might want to get some 55 gallon drums and stick them below your downspouts. It is not a problem having a garden, the soil isn't the best, but you'll need water and possibly fencing depending on your wildlife. Might want to consider container gardening until you get your inground spot ready. Welcome!
