Just like being in nature and gardening, houseplants are a big part of my life. ‘Every window has a few plants. My unfortunate habit of throwing cuttings makes my collection ever expanding even though I am constantly gifting plants. Why would anyone trouble with so many? Flowers is one reason. Live flowers. This Hoya is covered in little stars in my breakfast nook. This $5 orchid I got before Christmas last year has continually bloomed during a year with many transitions. This little cactus blooms almost continuously and has for years. As has this little kitchen window violet. With house plants around, for me there can be not bad days. (Maybe rough moments, but no bad days). Do you have any favorite plants? Do you have inside greener? What makes your gardening soul sing?
Looking very good, Jewell. You have such a nice-looking house. The plants are beginning to gather for their over-wintering. Great selection and variety. And that hoya brings back memories for I once had one scrambling up one of my sunny walls. I always enjoy seeing your indoor plants.
Thank you all for your kind comments. I am always starting new plants from cuttings and divisions. Sent three house plants to new homes yesterday. When maintaining house plants I have difficulty throwing cuttings and divisions in the garbage so I pot them up and before I know it I am crowded for plant space again. Aglaonema or Chinese evergreens are a type of houseplant that sparked my interest a few Christmas’s ago. Since then I have collected a few different varieties. They do best by ignoring them (only watering when dry) and are in east or north windows. I used to like only plants with green leaves, but tastes change. To me they are rather like a leaf bouquet. ‘The most common variety is probably Maria. From right to left: White Rain, Green Bay ( both very common seen in malls and offices), a start of red emerald, restart of Siam, and a young Cutlass. Many of my aglaonema have other plants as ground covers usually peperomias, like string of turtles or ruby cascade or small leaved pileas. Jewell Wow beautiful collection of colorful plants , they sure make a home look warm and welcoming. A house without house plants is empty of greenery and always looks bare to me. I just brought a few of mine inside for the winter hers a couple. The palms and bird of paradise like to be out in warm weather.
