Yep,..my household budget is destroyed,..just as i was rubbing my hands in glee knowing i was way ahead,..what happens,..i turned on my TV and instead of a colour TV its black and white with rainbow like circles from the edge inwards,..now while i liked the TV series "Time Tunnel",..and "Doctor Who" and viewed the rainbow circles briefly,..no way can i look at this distortion day by day,..so it has to be a new TV,..the question is,..will it be a flat screen or not?,..if its a flat screen i will need to move the furniture around,..DRAT,..this TV is about 10 years old,..plus, ,...how old is yours?. Bummer about your TV. Technology has a habit of going south when we least expect or can least afford it. Our TV is just over 3 years old. Purchased prior to retirement I had the advantage of viewing about 16 different models since they were required for the testing we were doing on cable boxes. I purchased it on line and one Saturday morning I announced to my wife That it was going to arrive soon. The next word I heard was "here" and I said yes it will arrive here. She said "No, it's here" Unknown to both of us the TV had arrived late in the day when we were both out. The delivery people not wanting to leave it in plain sight placed the box against a sliding door on a screened in deck out of sight from the street. She saw it first the next morning. A 32 in S _ _ _ _ _ g, it has performed flawlessly and we are very pleased. Jerry
Hi Jerry, i suppose i had a good run for the duration i had the set so i really can not complain,..moan,.. yes just because i have to get a new one. You certainly had a quick delivery with yours,..may it have a long life.
The TV we have here at the house was given to my brother "the dragon" when he retired from Exxon 2 years ago. I think it's around 25-30 inches flat screen... too big for his boat, so he left it here. No complaints from me about it. Can't beat free (and a nice picture).
We replaced a 15+ yr old one last month, color was going wonky and we really wanted a nice size LED Flat Screen so we waited until the after Christmas sales and got a good price. The old one was an analog, we weren't sure the thrift stores would take it as a donation but they did.
Man that stinks :-x Ours is somewhere in the 8 or 9 year old catagory. I'm afraid it's days are numbered I think we will replace it with a flat screen only because I want to get rid of that big old entertainment center that it lives in!
Our tv is about three years old. Before that we went for a number of years without a tv and didn't miss it because of all the stupid shows. After watching it for awhile we remembered why we didn't have one. dr says why pay all the money for a satellite or cable just to watch two hundred channels of chrome plated crap. We don't miss it. dooley
We bought our current TV in 1972 or thereabouts. I remember thinking that we didn't really need a color TV, but my husband prevailed. It has served us well, and we don't plan to replace it until we absolutely have to (I can't do without PBS for a bit of culture and the local evening news for some hearty laughs). I agree Dooley, we are content with the five channels that we get without cable. Most of the programs are either sophomoric or offensive.
Hi Cheryl, true you can not beat free,..and a nice size as well,..plus flat screen. ================================================ Hi Toni, wow 15+ years old,..and just changed it last month,..that was good value for money,..so you went for a LED Flat Screen,..nice one,..i will have the same thought in mind about the old set being removed by the new purchase people,..they are obliged to remove your old washing machines/TV's and so forth. =================================================== Stratsmom, stinks is right,..i just forked out for a new washer dryer before Christmas,..a new set will cost about the same,..here was me thinking i had saved paying two weeks pet care to the kennels by having a friend stay in my house while i was away,..aghhhhh. If your set is on the blink and you want to be rid of the big entertainment center then its got to go,..sorry. ================================================== Hi Dooley, well you managed without a TV for a few years,..i give you both a pat on the back there,..i imagine having a TV and not using it but knowing it was there,.. just in case?,..might make me feel good,..not having one i wonder could i cope after being addicted to always watching the news,..though its never good news,..oh not forgetting football,..come to think,..i am sure i wouldn't miss the TV for long. ==================================================== Hi Jane, gosh that must be a near enough record for the life of your TV,..and i agree if its not broke don't fix it/replace it,..i don't know how many channels i have,..but its,..news,films,gardening,history stuff i look at,..and if my soccer team is playing,..otherwise the pets can entertain me. ===================================================
I don't really get much tv time, hubby does We do like the food network and the history channel. I just love "American Pickers". I've also gotten hooked on PanAm I think I could live without it though I could do without the the cell phone & TV but not my 'puter
Hi Deanna, we get Pan am here though i must admit i have never checked it out,..i have gone ape on a series of "Time Team",..do you get this in America,.."Time Team"
We get Time Team America on most of the Public Broadcast Stations. I have seen them on our PBS station KERA and I think a few episodes of the UK version have been shown too. http://www.pbs.org/opb/timeteam/
Hi Toni, thanks for that link i bookmarked it,..it should be interesting,..the English one digs for Roman,Viking,Saxon and Anglo Saxon sites,..all very interesting stuff with surprises all the time.
NO TV here, so therefore...no worries for fitting a replacement in the budget. I haven't had one in the house in 12 years or so, and I don't miss it at all.
Hi Carolyn, you are lucky to be free of one,..apart from the expense and bother,..oh and the TV licence,..ours has gone up to around 80 euro per year,..that's approx $105. I was out shopping around for a new set,..still have not made up my mind as to what i am going to end up with,..no point in buying a flat screen to replace the old one and place it in the same position,..across a corner,..i would want to avail of the fact its a flat screen and wall mount it,..which wall?,..wherever it ends up i will have to move furniture,..but it appeals to me to be rid of the old version,..it takes up a lot of space even though in a corner,..the set itself is 35 inches wide and 20 inches deep. Its now 0230 in the afternoon and i have not turned on the set,..interesting!,..i don't miss it.
