I'm almost ashamed to admit that it's not really cold here (but just wait... we'll get our turn). Our lows will be in the 40s and I won't even mention what the highs will be for the next few days. Sending all you frosty Stewbies a few warm breezes.
At the moment it is 8f. It is supposed to get down to 3 tonight. I feel for my animals. I put extra food and straw in for the bunnies (they are inside one of the high tunnels) and closed the door on the coop, but it is still cold! Over night for the next week is supposed to be in the single digits.
Something is weird with THIS winter. Last winter it was freezing cold, lost some plants that were supposed to be hardy. This winter, we had a couple of snow blankets, came and went, and yesterday we had +10 C... which is HOT for mid January. I'm not used to this! And I'm not sure plants don't suffer.
At 5 am, it is 5 deg. F here with a -10 wind chill. Almost all the schools in the state are on a 2 hr. delay or are closed. Took the news 20 minutes to run the school lists at the bottom of the screen.
-2°F according to The Weather Channel but then it says Feels like -13°F. I never understood that "feels like" stuff and how it's measured.
The feels like temp. or wind chill, is the temp. that the wind makes it feel like on your skin. The more wind, the colder the wind chill. It dosn't affect inanimate things like cars or other things. Just animals and people. The wind chill is partly what causes frost bite too. The wind chill is actually more dangerous than the actual temp.
It is -18.8°C here right now, which is -1°F. Tonight and tomorrow night are expected to be much colder!
I just came in from doing chores and it is COLD! like the vapor freezes in your nostrils cold! and then I get to go to a funeral. That will be really cold at the cemetery. It seems to be a wind tunnel through there at any time and today will be brutal. As cold as it is I wonder if they will still do the committal service.
I remember when my Dad passed away in Jan 1977. It was -8 at the beginning of the funeral and windy. And I had flown in from Jacksonville Fla. the day before. Felt like an ice cream bar!
Now when I go to funeral. And in Winter I have warm boots in car I can slip into.I didn't think I could shake that much.
To make me feel warmer-looked at flower books. At least winds are slowing down. But can remember waking up at Grand parents house. Frost on ceiling.Covers piled HIGH.Run down to kitchen wood-cook stove. So glad DH watered plants and some trees Sat.It as 50* that day.
