Twisted fingers, permanently bent knuckles, and knots that are red or white and burn and itch and hurt. Ibuprofen works for a while, but I learned years ago, too much just ain't good for ya. Ointments? Lotions? Herbal remedies? A little help please?
Good question, FBG; I'll be following this/your thread hoping someone knows some effective remedies.. Hank
Maybe a hot tub would help. When I have heal spur problems it is wonderful. I hit the hot tub every night most of the time. Barb in Pa.
Yoga! Gentle exercise & stretching will help you maintain flexibility and may even reverse the inflamation. I have never had it as badly as yours sounds, but I used to have constant back pain and foot pain. I would grimace before putting my feet on the floor every AM. I started a gentle exercise program recommended by my physical therapist, graduated to a women's health club, now I am going whole hog at a regular health club and a separate yoga class. No pain, much stronger, very flexible. It has taken 5+ years, but I feel 10 years younger than I used to. I hope this helps.
I suffer badly too with Osteoarthritis. Carolyn is right gentle exercise and stretching does help quite a bit in relieving pain and making you more flexible. However, mine got so severe that I've had to have both knees replaced and am going into hospital shorty to have one of my hips replaced too. If I didn't keep up with the exercises I've been given to do things would have been even worse. I'm trying hard to keep walking as normally as possible as I don't want to end up in a wheelchair.
Seven years ago, I had a partial hip replacement done, due to a broken hip. Now I have arteritis in it that only bothers me when it's cold and damp or extremely high humidity. Due to the heart medication I take, the only thing I can take for the pain is Tylenol. Not the best, but it does help some.
My Mom says tart cherry juice works wonders for arthritis. My husband isn't much for sour so I buy him tart cherry capsules from swansonsvitamins.com. He takes one every day and my mom says 1 tablespoon if you use the concentrated juice.
I have to take predisone . But only 1mgm -that way doesn't hurt bones.20 year ago. I broke left arm in 7 places. Had 4 outer screws and bar-with garment hook glued to finger nail. But I do lot stretching. And calcium with vit D.
I know it's pretty much of an old cliche, but my Native American father swore by wearing a copper bracelet for his arthritis. He always wore one. Can't hurt to try it, right? Feel better, fatbaldguy.
1. Empty 1 box of Golden Raisins into a shallow container. 2. Pour enough gin (cheapest you can buy) to completely cover raisins. 3. Let stand uncovered until all liquid disappears (about 7 days). 4.Then place raisins in a covered container and eat just 9 raisins a day. (I would refrigerate at this point). If you don't like raisins put them on your cereal or in a salad. Good luck, hope it helps.
After I had surgery on my left knee in 1994 the doctor told me to take glucosamine/chondroitan. I take one in the morning and one at night. It helps some people and some say it doesn't. I think it has helped me. I take naproxin sodium for pain but not on any regular schedule, just at night when I can't sleep, mostly. I take so many pills I'm thinking of opening a pharmacy. I don't even like taking medication. dooley
I do go for message on shoulders every once and while. And Dh and I use To be in Karate. He 2nd degree black belt. But if I'm sore I do the stretching like we did before class. That helps a lot.
my grandmother always sprayed ( WD 40) on her elbows for arthiritis. She said arthur was only squeaky, tight joints that need lubricating.
