I was just wondering how tall Cannas were supposed to get. Most of mine are all the same size or at least about. I got all of my cannas from a friend who dug me up some of hers earlier this summer. They have all done quite well and are all about the same size, except one. I just went out and measured it (will take a picture later)OK , most of the leaves are 11 inches wide and 2ft long! The plant itself is over 6 ft tall but counting the blooms it is over 7 ft tall. Has anyone else had a plant go nuts like this, or are all of my regular size cannas just not doing well?

Different types of Canna will get different heights.
I have red ones that never make it more than about 3 feet tall but the ones with the yellow or yellow splotched with brown blooms are well over 6 ft tall.

Thanks toni. These are red cannas. I think these meust have ideal growing conditions because they all are the same type and all came from the same group of cannas. I have some really pretty orange/yellow that are not growing at all. They have huge blooms on them too but are not blooming. Di they do well in pots and do they dislike shade? I guess I could look them up and plant them in better locations. Thanks

Cannas come in many sizes from 2 feet to over 15 feet, depending on the variety as well as the care they are given.

Mine are really pathetic, poor things - it's been such a gray summer and for half of the summer where I had them turned out to be a lot shadier than I'd originally thought. Out of the five different cannas so far only one has bloomed, and it was the littlest one (only abour 15 inches tall!) I was feeling like a complete canna failure, so that one little bloom really helped keep my spirits up.

The tallest one is the tropicana, maybe 3-4 feet, no bloom...but it has pretty leaves.

Mine are pathetic too. The tallest one is only about 3 feet tall. But they all bloomed at least.

My Cannas really didn't do well this year. I think some of them are virused. I have been growing mostly dwarf types lately and they get up to about 3 feet with the flower shoot.

I have those crazy red cannas that get 7 feet tall and I wondered what the deal was with them. I don't like them that tall but I will leave well enough alone because others enjoy them.
