I purchased two beautiful orchids from a local store and they both had 6-7 flowers. The flowers lasted a couple of months and now have started to fall off. one of the plants has more buds but the other has nothing. Any advice on how to keep them flowering? Thanks
What sort of orchids have you got, do you know? They usually need a rest period between flowering periods. Keep them happy with adequate watering and fertilize when they're growing, and they will make new flowers for you eventually.
Orchids need a rest between flowering to recover their energy, there are some species of Phalaenopsis that will literally bloom themselves to death and the plant will die, in my opinion the best thing to do is to remove the spike as close to the plant as possible to allow it to rejuvenate and have the energy to grow new roots and foliage to make the plant stronger, but if you really want successive flowering you can remove the finished flowering spike to the first node below the lowest flowering nodes, this is suggested to stimulate the plant to produce a new offshoot to get more buds, You must remember that each successive blooming the flowers will be smaller and the plant will get weaker so a good feed at this time is imperative.
