Does anyone know how to make new aluminum such as buckets or washtubs look old. In case you can't find the old ones or want to pay the price some people charge. I have seen the process to do this in a magazine, but don't remember :!:

Those shiny buckets and tubs might be galvanized steel not aluminum. They are galvanized to prevent rust, but you can try cutting thru the galvanized layer with household bleach. I think you have to leave it in a pot of bleach for 12-24 hours, you may have to play with the timing.

Also, leaving them out in the elements from now until you want to plant in them in the spring will add age to them too. They still won't rust but they will have that aged look to them.

I have some directions for painting metal to have to verdigris or rusty look if you want to paint them.
