:s The bunnies are eating all my vegetables and flower plants.Last summer I used plastic fencing to keep them away, it was amazing to see Pa Pa Bunny ate his way thru layers of the fencing so that baby bunny could get into the garden. Another time, I watched this entire incident go down.I had the most beautiful sun flower in my garden baby bunny could not reach the flower, he got Pa Pa bunny to help bring the flower down to his height and ate all of the flower, it was maddening, but yet cute. Lenora, welcome to the Stew! Where is Beamsville? We have a plethora of rabbits, also. For some reason, they are particularly bad this year (cute, but BAD). We fenced our seasonal garden with T-posts and chicken wire to the height of 3', burying about 1' of the wire in the path (bunnies dig, bless their little hearts). We are also contemplating getting a dog that will chase but not catch rabbits. We want a sporting dog that will give the rabbits a sporting chance to get away. The rodent repellent sold doesn't work. Rabbits consider it a condiment for your lettuce, spinach, and other vegetables.
My dog chases the rabbits away. She's too old to catch them... so no harm. But the rabbits have never eaten any of my plants (that I know of). I'd have them any day over wild hogs!
Hi Lenora, welcome to GardenStew from Chelmsford, MA. I see that you are a hop, skip and a jump(maybe 2 jumps) away from Netty who also lives in Ontario. You will enjoy it here, lots of interesting people and a few rabbits. Welcome aboard. Jerry
Hi Lenora Welcome to GardenStew from the southern shores of beautiful Lake Simcoe! We have had a lot of rabbits this year too, which is the reason I will be fencing in my veggie garden next year.
Welcome to GardenStew. I have a BIG fence that is 6 feet high. That'll keep them out when they try to jump over it.
