Here is a demonstration of how I managed to plant 502 Onion seeds today.
Couldnt work outside, so I did an Inside job.

    This is my Onion Bed.
    Buy a Kitty Litter tray
    Fill with Seed Starting soil
    Moisten it well (water)

Take a small board an make 11 rows or whatever strikes your fancy
Put the seeds in the palm of your hand
Take Industrial tweezers an Pick them up an place in the soil around half inch apart.
They look like blades of grass for a long while.
Keep them watered an not dry out.

i place a plastic sheet across to keep it moist.
Indoors in one of my unused rooms. Room has heat but the onions dont need heat to germinate.

Any one else trying this ? It is that time for zone 5 beginnings.. Weeeeee Spring is coming soon.

Here in the UK I believe a lot of the older traditional growers start their onion seeds on Christmas day! Can't say I am that keen, but I have started having itchy fingers and have been thinking about starting some onions and leeks. In the past I have started tomatoes this early, but I now wait until late February.

I guess a cat litter tray is a nice big tray, bigger than a regular seed tray? You are tempting me to get sowing. :)

    Well Thank you EJ,

I am flattered to hear that . A friend gave me the seeds last Feb. She has a green house an I dont. She said try them..I did about a dozen , and they were impressive.

I did get more seeds,3000 for $1.99 which I thought was a great bargain.

    Will keep you updated.
    Thanks again

no spring seeds started here yet. I did read somewhere If one was going to be selling Geranium plants they would have needed to plant seeds by the 15th of Dec. I did try to start a few seeds, but no luck. I may try again just for my own use. I did also have some new herbs coming up inside but I was real bad on not keeping them watered and they dried out and withered away--My Bad! :( guess I'll have to try again on those too. Hope you have good luck on your onions Barb.
