I live in the St. Louis area. I planted some creeping phlox in my flower bed a couple of years ago, and it's creeping in the wrong direction. When would be the proper time to separate and transplant it in a different area? Any other suggestions?

    Thanks. :)

Traditionally when the soil has started to warm some. Perennials are being sold bare root now in my area. I have been dividing and moving my perennials around in my yard. Most have already started to sprout. I try to get them moved early with as much soil as I can get.

As soon as you see any growth you should be moving them. Don't wait much once they have waken up though. If you get a large amount of root and soil they might not even know they have moved. :stew1:

As soon as the soil is thawed and you work with it (don't try this if it is too wet, you shouldn't be "mudding" them in), divide and move. Don't wait until you see new growth. By then it is too late to successfully move them.
