I'm a gardening newbie in Zone 8. Recently moved to 3/4 acre where there are many trees, shrubs and flowers that I'm trying to learn about. The previous owner wasn't able to take care of it. It's been so hot and humid for the past 7 weeks since hubby and I moved here. Have been watering beginning at 4:AM every morning with well water on sprinker system for 10 mins, shrub misters 7 mins. I'll post pics and ask advice asap. Thanks for having me!

Hello there!! It's nice to have you here at GardenStew with us Melstra. WELCOME to our forums from West Lothian in Scotland. :-D
Hello there from South Central Texas. We have lots of Texans on here and love being here.I think you will like the Stew here as well.
hello melstra, from a bit to your north in Nebraska! Its been hot here too... looking forward to getting to know you.
Thanks to all for such a warm welcome! It's been so hot and humid here. The sprinkers turn on at 4:am but I water with the hose after that while enjoying watching the hummingbirds & butterflies on the plants. And I've never seen so many dragonflies!
I must look like a nut running around chasing the whitetail dragonfly all over the yard! He flies off everytime I try to take a pic. Long-tailed Skimmer (Libellula lydia)
Hi there and welcome to the group !! I am also in NE Texas. Mt Pleasant to be exact. Are we neighbors ? I have noticed an abundance of dragon flies as well.
Hi Melstra, welcome to GardenStew from north Texas, Dallas county in fact. Like Glendann said lots of Texans here and I am pretty sure we are all drought stricken and roasting under that blasted sun. Here's hoping that fall weather doesn't forget us this year. I have had many more Dragonflies in the yards this year than ever before and an assortment of colors too.
Rain ?? What is that ? It looks like a dust bowl here in sandy land. I go through Gilmer often going to Tyler. Got to go Tues. as a matter of fact. Drs appt. No fun there.
Thanks Toni! It's great to find such a friendly, informative site. Mart, hope your Drs appt goes good. Again last night I watched lightening in the east but alas, not a drop of rain here.
