A few hummingbird feeders are invaded by ants. One method to stop the steady stream of ants is water. A simple moat, using what you may have or can easily find. This is just a quick way that I found and you may be able to substitute a few of the things. I have no ants around at this time so I could not show a picture with them. Visit Ant Trap I enjoy coming up with these ideas and sharing them with you all.
We really appreciate the time you take to share these ideas with us Kildale. I'm sure many of our members will be grateful for this one as I know ants can be a real problem.
If wasps are a problem, move the feeder a few feet. Insects are not very bright and will hover where it was and give, up thinking the source has gone for good. The hummers don't give up so easily.
One trick I have used to help deter the wasps was to smear Vicks Vaporub on the bottom of the feeder. I guess we're lucky that most of our ant problems stem from the fireants who pretty much stay on the ground.
