I sat out back & waited this evening & got these shots of 2 of our resident hummingbirds: He was scratching himself here My wife found this spider in the garage Tuesday night. We captured it & let our daughter observe it for a day and a half. We let it loose out in the country. It is a wolf spider, according to my wife & this booger was about 2-and-a-half inches long!
LOL! Sorry spiders don't live long here! But the humming birds are just so cute. Great photo's and thanks for sharing.
Great photographs of your hummers WT. I'd have let the spider just scuttle away. No way would I have picked it up when it was that size!!! I am getting braver though as I now carefully put any spiders that come into our cottage back into the garden - yes even the big ones. However I always put a plastic cup over them and then cover it with paper as I can't bear to pick them up with my hands.
Fabulous pics of the Hummingbirds WTxDaddy. I've been trying to get photos of mine but the little buggers are too quick! Maybe I'll have better luck once my Black & Blue starts blooming. I let a huge "Jumping Spider" loose in the garden last week. I found him in the shower!
I love the photos of your humming birds! You have a great camera and a good eye. We have close to 100 humming birds here(central Arkansas) eating out of 4 of the largest feeders we could find. We go thru 1 to 1 1/2 gal of humming bird food a day. The spiders don't last long around here. They seem to jump or crawl under our feet when we see them. "squish" oh, poor spider....not! I do leave the timber tarantulas alone. They are big enough to see, and I enjoy watching them.
Well, I certainly did NOT pick that booger up with my bare hands. I caught him in my daughter's "bug-looker" and screwed the top on. My daughter also calls large spiders "try-antulas".
Oh so cute - the birds, of course. I've never seen a spider I wanted to cuddle. The ones we get around here give nasty bites and are Wood Spiders. They like to live under your roof. Those photos are so good. One of ours came around a corner the other day and stopped a few feet in front of me, just stared for a few seconds, gave a little chirp and zoomed off. Gardengater
The little hummers are so cute. You have a good eye, steady hand and great camera. Thanks for sharing your pics. I was awakened one night by something crawling on me and hit at it and knocked it off my face. I immediately turned the light on and found the'thing'. I grabbed a can of hair spray and put it over the spider until morning. I 'murdered' it and put it in a zip lock bag and took it to the county extension office. They ID'ed it as a Wolf spider, albeit a dead one! Needless to say, I had my house exterminated the next day.
Love the pics of the hummers! I don't get many. Thanks for sharing..Are wolf spiders poisonous?? I don't care if they are outside ,but inside YIKES!!I call my son. He doesn't kill anything. He'll let it go outside. Far away I tell him.
I don't think they are venomous critters, just big & scary. I sort of would hope these critters would move into my flower beds & feast on those darn snails!
Large spider...brave daughter! Let me just say that you have a brave daughter. I grew up with a brother who tormented me by coming into my room just before bedtime, pretending that he had a spider in his hand and then he'd throw it on me. One night he wasn't pretending! I was terrified of them. Cruel cruel brother he was! Lovely hummers too!
Great pics of the hummers WTxD. The spider however, I can do without. I love the hummers and get some here in ME but not many and they come around more in the spring and then on their way back south in the fall. Thanks for sharing.
Wonderful photos. We have the same 2 colors of Hummingbirds as you have. Do you know what type they are? Thanks, BJ
Yeah, Wolf Spiders do bite and inject venom if they are provoked....how much it take to provoke them I have no intention of finding out. Bugs outside I leave alone but once they come in the house I figure they are asking me to help them pass on to their next life and I am happy to oblige.
