Are my fellow Texans and those in Louisiana,Alabama, Mississippi and Florida making preparations for 'Gus'? Looks like it will be a direct hit on LA west of New Orleans and the Texas coast. I am about 175 miles from the coast. We expect strong wind and torrential rain, maybe up to 20" as they say 'Gus' is moving very slow. Possible tornadoes.Even North Texas, Toni's part of the state will likely have flooding according to the weatherman. I have taken down my flag, flower pots on shepherd hooks, wind chimes, gazing balls and other outside things. My son is coming over in the morning to take down my porch swing, turn a table over that is on the deck (we'll place items on it), so it doesn't take flight and somehow anchor the 5 chairs. My deck is screened in, but that didn't stop Hurricane (category 5) Rita three years ago. The winds from that turned everything upside down. I'm hoping and praying that once it hits landfall, somehow magically it will disappear!! So living in a mobile home, guess I will have to cross my fingers too. I plan to go to a friends (brick) house sometime tomorrow. Would everyone please say a prayer for all of us living in the danger zone. Thanks
I have absolutely everything tightly crossed for you Kuntrygal. I sincerely hope that Gustav dies out long before it reaches you. Stay safe and keep us updated if you can.
My fingers are crossed for you. I really hope that all will be alright where you are. I shall be watching the weather developments and thinking of you and hoping for the best.
It sounds like 'Gus' has slowed down. That is good, but after the storm hits landfall that's when all the flooding starts. But according to the TV station in Dallas that Toni mentioned (they have reporters along the coast) it may not be as bad as expected. I hope they are right. The winds aren't suppose to start here till this afternoon and gradually build to 55 - 70 mph and continue through tomorrow. Will check back when I can. Thanks for everyone's good thoughts.
Its been coming in at a catogrory 2.Its still a bad one.The wind is very high.It came on land at Cocodrie, La.Its still not all inland yet.Tornados are moving ahead of it.As I type they say a tornado is moving on ground.
Glenda just called to check on me (bless her). It sounds like from what I have heard and the reports that Glenda has heard, it will not be the monster they first expected. Thank God! But flooding will be the issue now. I'm not that far from Glenda and she will be driving home from work tonight about 11:00, probably in the driving rain and wind. So good thoughts and prayers for her also.
