I know we have many stewbies from Texas. But not knowing where you all are at-I thought this would be the time to put this in. I only heard that their evacuating people along the coast line. I'm hoping everyone stays safe this weekend from Ike. Please let us all know that you are safe when its all done and over. I know they're calling it a category 3 so I'm guessing it shouldn't be the worst of storms. But winds and tornadoes are no fun no matter where one lives. Stay safe.
Check this site once in a while, you can keep up with it's track. http://www.stormpulse.com/ As of this morning it will be coming onshore southwest of Glendann by several miles but then take a right turn and the heavy part will pass over her and then over Gaylyn out by Lufkin. Budagardener and I are in the clear if it stays on this track. After it goes into Arkansas I don't know where it will be in relation to our members there.
I sincerely hope Ike passes over and leaves no injuries or damage in its wake. Stay safe one and all.
In West Texas, we should be out of Ike's way completely, if he follows the projectiions. We have had a 100-year rain here, though. It has nothing to do with Ike. It came from the Pacific over the Southwest & dumped 8 inches in this area. We are soaked up here on the Llano Estacado. It looks like our rain chances are lower today, but we really don't need any more for a while. And the week-long cloud cover & temperatures in the 70's have not been good for the cotton crop. This is not the time of year we need rain. We need the sun & hot temperatures for the cotton to mature. Everything is so wet, schools are closed - even colleges! Farmers will not be able to get in their fields with their tractors for a good while.
Unless he makes another shift Ike should hit land smack into the center of Galveston then hit Houston almost dead center. Dallas, where I am, is back in the path a little on the west side and will probably get 4+ inches of rain and some high winds. His forward movement has sped up since yesterday so they are thinking that once he hits land he will move thru Texas pretty quickly which means less damage than a slower speed would result in. Glenda and Gaylyn should be hunkered down in a shelter somewhere before midnight tonight.
It does appear to be pretty bad in Galveston and nearing Houston. Glenda is just about 100 miles north of Houston and in the direct path. Haven't heard anything from Gaylyn. But it looks like Ike's path will be midway between where she is near Lufkin and where I am in Dallas. She has a daughter in the Dallas area and might be here by now, I don't know for sure. You can catch up on the lastest at http://www.khou.com/ The Dallas are should be getting heavy rain and wind starting Saturday and going thru early Sunday.
I am at home and my son Kevin is with me.We are in a mobile home I sure hope it can handle the wind Gaylnn is with friends in Lufkin.I spoke to her last night. Thanks for prayers and good thoughts our way.Toni you could get lots too.Hang on girl. I'm also listening to the head on collision of the two trains in California. Is really bad.
Ike is still a Cat 1 hurricane with sustained winds of 90 miles per hour, the eye appears to be getting near Glenda's area at this time. It will be going straight north and rake over Gaylyn's area in a couple of hours or so then veer even more to the east than predicted before and head off across east Texas into Arkansas. The Dallas area is west of where it is going but we will be getting some heavy rain and some winds of 30-40 mph. That is unless his course changes yet again. http://www.wfaa.com/weather/radars/texascoast/ http://www.wfaa.com/weather/radars/southtexas/animated/
I just talked to Glenda and it was gusting and blowing bad. She said the trees are just a dancing. Their electric was off and no phones. She was on her cell. dooley
