Yikes it looks like it is going to be a big one. You are in my prayers for safety and minimal damage. Please do let us know how you are preparing for Irene. :stew1:

There have been enough warnings on TV and the news that most people are heeding the authorities and preparing. Still, the Northeast has not experienced a storm of this magnitude for a long time. The frequency of major storms is not there, not as in Florida and the southern coast. The awareness is something that alsolacks experience. The Northeast has 'built over' the memories of the devastating hurricanes of 1938 and 1950's and built in a false sense of security. It looks like that sense will be tested this time. Early next week we will see the test results. I was not yet born when the hurricane of '38 tore New England apart, scrubbed the shoreline clean and wash away the innocence of unsuspecting New Englanders. I hope we will not go through that kind of destruction again. Time will tell.

Jerry, it looks like your area will be on what's called the Dirty Side of the hurricane. The path of the Eye was projected to be west of Boston and you are not all that far from Boston. Do you have an evacuation center or somewhere safe to head to?

Daisy Beans, you are in the path too. Hope you have gotten on the road to someplace safe.

Who else lives along the east coast?
