The title about covers it. Its beside a sidewalk to our backyard in an overgrown area. I was planning to transplant it later this year but husband decided to mow down the weeds and also the rose bush. In fact he was quite aware he was mowing it judging by his response to my subsequent accusation when I saw what he'd done. Any hope it will grow back?

Do you have a dog house he could live in for a while ;)

It should grow back, probably start putting out new growth in a few weeks. It's always best to trim them way back before moving them anyway, he unknowingly helped you with that garden chore....but I wouldn't move it until early spring.

Make that a doghouse for 2. I am still mad at my husband for mowing a row of strawberries a few years back.

Good luck with your rose bush, and i am sure all will be fine. lol. Sounds like he just over pruned for you.

My husband does things like this too. I'm sure it's so that I'll stop asking him to help the garden.
Your rose bush should be fine unless he 'trimmed' it right down to the ground. Do let us know if it sprouts new growth.

I'm sure he knew exactly what he was doing when he took out the rose bush, judging by his confession! It is quite close to the sidewalk which is why I'd been pruning it back. Its grabbed hold of me one time too many. My plan was to transplant it to the back of the shed but I don't have that area ready yet.

I'd be a lot madder if it had been the strawberries he'd taken out, too! Fortunately they are growing with the rhubarb and raspberries, both in raised garden beds. Its a lot more work for him to haul the mower a foot or two up to the raised gardens. I think they're safe....

My husband mowed down my Rose of Sharon and it was small enough it didn't come back.

That rose ought to come back alright, unless it was cut below the graft...then if it comes back, it may not look like it did before.

    Oh my...

even though mowing is part of a gardener's live when one is growing a lawn, this would still make me see red.

Especially since my mother is not too big on roses and I am always the one having to help her with her lawn that she keeps for the dogs, and as play area and I love roses.

Yeah, I think you just overpruned

Reminds me of the one and only time I asked my husband to weed the front beds. He did...with a hose-end attachment of Roundup.
