My friend gave me potted flowering red lilies (from the nursery). The label says 'hybrid lilies'. There are 3 plants in the pot. I am wondering what I should do to make sure that they come back next year? How should I take care of these beauties? Thanks in advance.
Tina, your lily can be planted right now and leave in all winter. Should come up about summer (give or take). I had a yellow lily, the tag even showed a picture a yellow lily and it came up red. It was a nice surprise seeing I don't have any red lilies.
Tina because your lilies are hybrids they may not be red next year. It all depends on which 'parent' was the dominant colour. I leave my lily bulbs in the ground all year round and even here, where we get severe frosts, they bloom again for me each summer.
Thanks so much for responding. I have one more question - can I plant the lily in a container? Will they be all right then? Thanks again.
They should be fine in a pot Tina as long as they are in a sheltered spot. I usually cover any planters or flowerpots with bulbs in them with a layer of garden fleece.
