I just moved into a new house a few months ago and when spring came a few of these plants came up and I have no clue what they are . My mom told me that someone told her that it was a salvia but when I looked it up it looked nothing like that. So this plant started up they were purple and then they turned green and got these flowers on them now. Can someone please tell me what it is?

I believe it is a Peony but I don't know which one. There are several members who grow them, one should be along in a while to verifiy that.

Definately a Peony Rose and a very pretty colour it is too. :-D I have a similar one in my garden but can't actually name it for you as a magpie flew off with the tag a while ago. The number of labels that magpie has stolen. I'll bet it's nest is one of the most colourful in the area. :D :D

I'm jealous :smt083 You are lucky to have such wonderful plants at your new home! When we bought our house I was so anxious for spring to see what I might get. Got nuttin' except an old snowball bush and a few scraggly ditch lilies  Enjoy your peonies!

It looks like a Peony to me too and I'm so green with envy as they want survive our Texas heat.

From the foliage I can tell you it is a form of P. lactiflora, the herbaceous peony rather than P. suffruticosa, the tree peony.
